Commercial Releases
Death of an Aura (Benbecula Records)
2008, CD/FLAC/mp3

Also available on iTunes, Beatport, Juno.
Lemodie (Benbecula Records)
2006, CD/mp3

As physical copies of Lemodie are becoming increasingly scarce, your best best will be to purchase mp3s from Bleep, which are now encoded at the highest possible quality, at 320kbps (almost imperceptibly inferior to CDs), and free from any DRM restrictions (leaving you free to make copies and burn your mp3s to CD). You can preview the entire album above, and though playback will pause every 30 seconds, simply hit the play button again to resume.
Also available on iTunes, Beatport, Napster, 7digital, HMV Digital, TuneTribe.
Where possible I’d really appreciate it if you could leave a review (e.g. Amazon.co.uk, Discogs, or Last.fm) — this would be a huge help for me. Thanks!
Press release:
“Benbecula venture South over Hadrian’s Wall once more to bring one of the most wonderfully written and melodic pieces of electronica to grace these shores. Ochre aka Chris Leary, first came to the public’s attention via his album for Toytronic in 2004 entitled A Midsummer Nice Dream. During that time and up until autumn 2005, he has offered a steady output of remix work and compilation appearances via the likes of Subvariant, Boltfish, Audiobulb, Igloo and Unschooled.
Where the Toytronic album was a ‘best of’ collection of older recordings spanning a couple of years, the album Lemodie for Benbecula, is an especially commissioned body of work.
Ochre’s take on the electronic format takes the medium to its melodic limit, with an orchestral feel and precision that would challenge the best contemporary traditional composers.
Benbecula once again embraces the advance of music within a medium. Rather than pushing the noise envelope via the technology available, Ochre expertly demonstrates that the most complex of compositions can be realised in a human and organic way via technology, possibly more than anyone before him.”

There are a lot of people out there that have the talent to create unique sounds and to make a good mix. But only a few musicians have the education and the flair to write beautiful, energetic songs like you do. Keep up the great work.
I think a lot of music lovers would like to have a copy of your cds. You should really try to make some availible. A cd with a nice cover means much more to me than a downloaded MP3 file.

p.s. - ever thought of doing a limited vinyl-only release available off this site of some of your favorites (pretty please!)???
Greetings and Salutations from Kansas, USA!

I have a suggestion. Would you be so kind as to list all of the known/released tracks you have collaborated to make? Im itching to get my hands/ears on anything you have had yours on. :p

Thanks! Well, there’s always the possibility of another self-release, but I’m not sure anyone would buy tracks on vinyl that are already available on the site as mp3s. Plus of course I’m keen to continue handing unreleased tracks to Benbecula for possible future releases.
I do agree a vinyl release would be fun; it’s a shame Lemodie wasn’t available on vinyl, but the kind of costs involved don’t really make financial sense in the current musical climate. If I had the extra cash myself I would have perhaps helped subsidise a vinyl release… but then I seldom have spare cash. We’ll have to see what happens with the next release - perhaps we’ll get a vinyl run out then.

Hi Aaron—I think the above list is a fairly complete list of released mp3s, along with their related mp3 purchase links, where available. Anything that doesn’t appear on that list is probably either too old or not worth bothering with anyway.

TheGonz—Well, being a small indie artist on a small indie label, large CD runs of more than 1000 units often aren’t practical or feasible, unfortunately.
As the bulk of CDs are usually sold within a few weeks of release and then largely forgotten about as the promo hype dies down and everyone moves on, the risk of being left with boxes of unsold CDs collecting dust in warehouses are fairly high, especially at this tiny commercial level. Not to mention the difficulty in today’s uncertain musical climate in convincing a distributor to take on so many copies of a release.
It makes more sense for indie labels to put out small runs so they can quickly recoup their investment and move on to the next release, rather than potentially be left with a huge financial deficit due to underwhelming sales of a single release. Even as it stands with 1000 unit releases, the production of one release relies on the success of the previous release to support it.

alrighty. is the valley forge track available for mp3 download? i cant seem to find it for download. the cd is rather expensive for me (around 20 USD+shipping), although id really like to have the cd anyway…

I think that’s one of the few releases not currently available on mp3, unfortunately. I’ve updated popular purchase links for the remaining releases though.

Just an update for you Aaron—Rednetic have just finished implementing their own download store, so you’re now able to buy tracks from 1.1, and any other release, in 320kbps mp3 for 70p per track:

I’m quite sure it will, as it’s due out on Baselogic (though I’ve no idea of the time frame at the moment, sorry).
